This project is stemming, but also diving deeper, into my photographing the invisible project. I decided to symbolize the difference between how a sad teenage girl might view life, compared to a happy one. The stark difference in black and white and color was purposeful to convey those emotions as well. Being a teenage girl myself, I have been and interacted with girls who feel these emotions, either very strongly, or just slightly. With this project I wanted it to be aparent that being emotional is a spectrum and especially being a teenage girl, there is a blend of what your emotions can be, and that is okay.
I think my favorite photo from the series is the mirrored photo in the sad catagory. First of all, I like the way it looks visually, but in the way I have interacted with some of my friends who are maybe going through a bit more of a sadder time, they think the sadness is kind of never ending. So, with this image, it is almost like no matter where you look there is always that same feeling. I also think that for the happier catagory, the character portrait is my favorite. To me, it conveys what it means to be excited and overall happy as a girl. I think the background is really kind of happy, and almost warm, that it just looks like a photo of laughter and joy. It also helps that I took this photo of my close friend Jemma and we were just having fun..
