Jackson Barril_Modern American Childhood
My series is called MODERN AMERICAN CHILDHOOD, and it is a comentary and a display of my own personal expierences and symbolisum when I think of my journey. I try to show the contrast between promises, American Dream, and realitys of living in the 21st century. The artwork goes into what ithe requirements seeem to be to reach the american dream struggle, sacrifice, and even who is able to even obtain the dream.
This is one of my favorite images because of its loaded symbolisum. The hand reaches for the sky, the stars, the dream, but the american flag is wrapped around holding the hand back. The hand has blue words and marks stars almost reminisant of the American Flag, and the word weak commenting back on expectations and realities as well as self doubt and belonging. The hand reaching up is also taken at such an angle that it doesn't look quiet like a struggle upward and almost in a bent weak state to show some of the strain of the fight.
